Despite Congressman Wittman’s Promise to Support a Clean CR, He Has Voted 9 Times Against One

In Washington, Congressman Wittman is continuing to oppose any reasonable solutions to ending the government shutdown, voting nine times to block clean budget bills.

Furthermore, in an interview with WTOP radio, Congressman Wittman continued to maintain that he would support a continuing resolution (CR) to fund government operations without strings attached; however, in the same breath he noted, “I don’t have any control about what comes to the floor.”

“Despite continued promises to vote on a clean CR by Congressman Wittman, they clearly are not worth the paper they are printed on,” said Marc Broklawski, Chair of Virginia’s First Congressional District Democratic Committee. “He has had 9 opportunities to bring a clean CR to the floor and he has voted against re-opening the government every time.”

“Instead of voting for the people in his district, Congressman Wittman continues to be a lap dog for his Tea Party controlled House Speaker, John Boehner – being spanked into submission 92% of the time on roll call votes,” said Broklawski. “It’s time for him to man up and just vote for Virginia families over his party bosses.”

The First Congressional District runs from Fauquier and Prince William to Newport News, with tens of thousands of residents dependent on the federal government for jobs and services.
