Congressman Wittman Stuffs Herr’s Pockets, While Telling Kids to Stuff It

As First District families continue to suffer going into Week Three of the Republican Shutdown, Congressman Rob Wittman is going to parties and political fundraisers. Instead of staying in DC to demand a vote on a clean CR and debt-ceiling increase, Mr. Wittman is traipsing from one partisan soiree to another. Today he’s making it rain for his Tea Party pal, First Congressional District Republican Committee Chair and supposedly “independent” Stafford County School Board candidate Eric Herr. This on the heels of a fundraiser on Saturday with Delegate Scott Lingamfelter and Friday with Delegate Mark Cole. So many fundraisers, so little time for leadership!

Reacting to Congressman Wittman’s misplaced priorities and lack of leadership, Marc Broklawski, the Chair of Virginia’s First Congressional District Democratic Committee, issued the following statement:

“The Republican shutdown is threatening school aid payments, such as those surrounding school lunch programs. Congressman Wittman is essentially telling kids to stuff it, while stuffing Herr’s pockets.”

“Eric Herr says he wants to ‘focus on the classroom.’ What he’s really saying is he wants to send education back to the one-room school house and Congressman Wittman is his willing handmaiden. Congressman Wittman needs to get back to the job he was elected to do – fund the government and pay our bills – and stop going to political fundraisers.”

“Due to the legislative malfeasance of radical Republicans in Congress, our nation is staring down the barrel of a historic credit default, which will hit Virginia families hard. Congressman Wittman’s frittering away valuable time partying with his Tea Party cronies, when Virginia families are worried about the wolf at the door.”
